Cannabinoids have been used for medical treatment for years now, and more and more physicians have realized the number of benefits medical marijuana provides their patients who may be suffering from certain medical conditions and their resulting symptoms. Some of these medical benefits that cannabis provides include:
In 2010, researchers at Harvard Medical School suggested that some of the drug’s benefits may actually be able to reduce anxiety, and their results weren’t unfounded. Cannabis contains ingredients that can help reduce anxiety at the cellular level; many scientists have discovered that these ingredients have been proven to act on nerve cells with a sedative effective, dampening anxiety and providing relief to sufferers.
May Reverse Carcinogenic Effects
According to a study in 2012, marijuana does not impair lung function like tobacco products; in fact, it may reverse the carcinogenic effects tobacco causes in the lungs! During this study, researchers tested the lung function of over 5,000 young adults over the course of 20 years. They found that those who smoked tobacco lost lung function over time, while those who used marijuana had actually shown an increase in lung capacity.
Helps Control Seizures
Based on a 2003 study, researchers found that providing marijuana to epileptic rats helped rid them of seizures for at least 10 hours. This finding has revealed that active ingredients in marijuana, such as THC, can help control seizures by binding to the brain cells that help control excitability. To go even further, cannabidiol has been proven to help treat a significant seizure disorder known as Dravet’s Syndrome.
Cannabis is considered an ideal medication to help treat symptoms caused by medical conditions such as Lupus, Glaucoma, arthritis, and even some forms of cancer! Cannabis provides even more medical benefits besides those listed above, and maybe even additional benefits scientists have not yet found. Doctors and other physicians have begun to recognize these advantages, and so have their patients! Want to provide your patients these same benefits with medical cannabis? Give us a call today!
